Age Appropriate Gowns

For Teen Divisions

One of the trickiest parts of pageantry is the selection of evening gowns for teen delegates. There is a very fine line of what’s appropriate for teenagers compared to what’s appropriate for the older age divisions. At the teen level you want to keep the presentation of the gown to look like a teenager. That means conservative at every corner. No long slits or cleavage please! Once again this is fighting the temptation to dress older.

I had the honor recently of hosting the Miss Florida Teen USA television special. On stage were some pretty spectacular gowns that fit into the “teen division” concept. Great presentation but the young ladies kept the gowns looking like they should belong to teenagers. Feeling that the best way of developing your own style is to visually see what’s appropriate and then adding your own style. So in today’s visit I have selected my favorite teen gowns from the competition and will share them with you today!

My Favorite Teen Gowns

Strapless A-line silk gown with beaded top designed to resemble a bustier and the hidden box pleats on the skirt creates a majestic presentation during her evening gown competition.

Soft cut of the portrait neckline with ruffling that enhances the rouging from the bodice to the bottom of the hip line. Color of the gown makes Victoria look very youthful.

Vary of the pink hues of the fabric enhances the figure but still gives a teen presentation with it’s halter neck and flowing skirt.

The halter-beaded collar enhances simple satin princess cut gown with matching beading on racer back designed. Teen appropriate.

Beaded halter top with bare back coming to a 4 inch point below her waistline to give her waistline a tapered look without emphsizing the hips. The soft flow of the chiffon over taffeta skirt flowed nicely across the stage.

White on white beaded strapless bodice top with chiffon over satin skirt. Roughing across the hip line with soft flowing scarf following to the side of the gown. Gently tailored skirt is enhanced by 2-foot train, which glides nicely across the stage while it does not inhibit her while walking.

Dress flows when walking color and gown very teen appropriate. Well-detailed beads same color as fabric. Youthful look with strapless bodice and a gored skirt. Color compliments skin tone and hair tone.
